ISO 9001:2015 to ISO 9001:2026 Transition, Done Right the First Time
The new edition is out. Led by Lead Auditor Satish Verma (33+ years), we upgrade your existing QMS with lean, practical changes, so your transition audit is a formality, not a fire-fight.
Don't wait for 2029. In the last transition (2008 to 2015), certification bodies and auditors were heavily booked in the final months. Organizations that planned early transitioned during routine surveillance audits at no extra stress.
What Changed, and What Auditors Will Ask For
The 2026 edition is an evolution. Here is our lead-auditor view of each change and the evidence a certification body will typically expect.
Quality culture & ethical behaviour
Top management must promote a quality culture and ethical behaviour; people must be aware of it.
Evidence auditors look for: Leadership walk-throughs, how quality concerns are escalated, no-blame reporting, decisions where quality beat dispatch pressure.
Risks and opportunities handled separately
Actions for risks and for opportunities are planned and evaluated separately.
Evidence auditors look for: Updated risk & opportunity register, separate effectiveness review, MRM inputs reflecting both.
Planning of changes, strengthened
Changes must be communicated, monitored and their results reviewed.
Evidence auditors look for: Change records for new machines, ERP, supplier switches or layout changes with post-change review.
Organizational knowledge
Knowledge must be retained, applied and shared across the whole QMS.
Evidence auditors look for: Skill matrices, one-point lessons, succession plans for critical operators and inspectors.
Objectives for every internal audit
Each internal audit needs a defined objective, along with scope and criteria.
Evidence auditors look for: Audit plans stating why the audit is being done (e.g., verify effectiveness of a recent change).
Climate change
The 2024 climate amendment is integrated: determine if climate change is a relevant issue.
Evidence auditors look for: Context analysis and interested-party register showing climate was considered.

ISO 9001:2026 Transition FAQs
Clear, auditor-backed answers to common questions.
1When was ISO 9001:2026 published and what is the transition deadline?
ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026. A 3-year transition period applies, so organizations certified to ISO 9001:2015 must complete their transition by September 2029.
2Do we need to rewrite our entire QMS for ISO 9001:2026?
No. The 10-clause structure, process approach and risk-based thinking remain the same. Most organizations need targeted updates in leadership, risks and opportunities, change management, organizational knowledge, internal audit planning and climate considerations.
3Can the transition be done during our surveillance or recertification audit?
Usually yes. Most certification bodies allow the transition to be combined with a surveillance or recertification audit, sometimes with additional audit time. Confirm the exact arrangement and dates with your certification body early.
4How long does the ISO 9001:2015 to 2026 transition take?
For a well-maintained 2015 system, typically 6 to 10 weeks of focused work. Systems with weak internal audits or management reviews may need longer.
5Does Qualitech issue the ISO 9001:2026 certificate?
No. Qualitech is an independent consultancy. We prepare your organization; the certificate is issued only by your accredited certification body after its transition audit. This keeps your certification impartial and credible.
